Pretty fun weekend! Thursday my whole family came up to Chicago, and while I was working Thurs and Friday, I still got a lot of time in those two days, and Saturday. Let's see if I can break it down...
Thursday: Went to navy pier to the children's museum; then ate at a pretty damn mediocre Italian place at the pier. Escorted them back to the train.
Friday: Met them at a train/bus stop, and headed on up to Chicago Brahaus, a german restaraunt at Lincoln Square. AWESOME. They serve German beer by the pint.. and whew. That is one really good restaraunt. I'm taking everyone who visits Chicago there from now on. haha
Saturday: Ate at Philly's best on the west side of downtown, then to Willis Tower, then back to Navy Pier to ride the ferris wheel and play some mini-golf. Then headed over to Portillos.
Sunday: Everyone visited here; played knights and tigers (apparently) with the kids.
Good times!
2011-05-29 - Beer n Kids in Effingham
Had TWO beers this weekend. That's pretty damn unusual. Friday the company I work for took us all out to Wrigley field to watch the Cubs get the smack-down (4 to 0 until the 9th inning... ended 4-2). So I had a beer and hot dog on them. So now I'm in Effingham for my newest niece's baptism. After the happenings, went over to a family friend's place and downed another beer.
Don't even like beer! How strange. Also, there's a cat on my foot using my toes as a pillow. So anyway, that's about it. Good to get home.
2011-05-23 - You didn't survive the Rapture!
I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but you didn't "survive" the Rapture. Nope, it happened. Just three people were raptured, I'm afraid. Me, this guy from Norway, and Macho Man.
Sucks to be you. Heaven is fucking awesome. The second you start to feel angry or sad, an ice cream truck drives by. Only the driver is that funny uncle of yours, and instead of ice cream, it's penguins.
Yup.
Also, I wrote a new short story, which you can find here.
2011-05-06 - Hey, what's up?
Discovering life getting by w/o a car. It's interesting. Did you know my backpack can hold just three bags of groceries? That appears to be the limit. Also, there's a grocery store LITERALLY down the street, but I rode to the one 1.5 miles away... not sure why.
Anyway! It's warmer out, I have a full time job, and enjoying some serious freedom at that job. Choose my own hours, choose what days... leave if I'm tired. Work on the weekend if I'm bored. I feel like I must have done something to be rewarded like this, but I don't know what it might have been. If you're at Symmetri and somehow reading this (stalker?) - You guys rock.
So: "The Secret Atlas" by Michael J. Stackpole. Sucks. Don't bother. What's that Stackpole? Did I hurt your feelings? I could write better crap than this! In fact, I DO write better crap than this! Stop with the freakin exposition. You put me to sleep. Are you happy?! I couldn't actually finish your book. And that is a first. In summation, please go back to your day job. Thanks. Sincerely, a better writer than you.
Weeeeee... okay, I'm done now.
Oh wait! Your usual pic and/or video. Hm. Here you go!
2011-04-19 - Homeward bound!
I'm still in Effingham, waiting for some of the worst storms to pass, and then it's homeward bound! Back to Chi town. Looking forward to getting back to the usual routine. Back to work, back to gaming, back to friends. I'll miss you cross. I know you're in there, Jesus. I don't care what people say, someday when I knock on the door you'll be home!
2011-04-04 - Just some updates
Hey. How's it going? I added a new story called Nugget to my portfolio under Writing (bottom of page). Also updated the Magic blog and the events list under Magic.
That is all! Carry on with your interwebbing, good day sir.
2011-03-28 - Greetings from fabulous Effingham, Jesusania
So I'm home for the weekend. The only full day I had here was yesterday. I'm off on the amtrak this evening back to Chicago. Good to get some family time in, although we've been hit with some rough news this month.
What's new with me other than that? Plenty of work, got a decent-sized tournament to run Friday. Chewing through a pretty good book. I expect to finish it off on the train ride home. Kill the Dead, the follow-up to the Sandman Slim novel. A lot like the Dresden books, only written better, but without the nice, familiar setting. LA? No one cares about that place!
On the gaming scene, I've been playing a lot of Starcraft and trying to figure out th triggers/AI system to make an actual campaign. My friend Dana's been talking Dragon Age 2 up a little on me... it sounds good and the demo was fun.
And that's about it. Speaking of games, this was interesting:
2011-03-24 - People do not have their own ideas.
They don't. Honestly. We watch too much bullshit on the internet and TV.
This spoke to me:
2011-03-20 - Even More Random Talking Points
1. Your expectations of Obama were way too high, but that doesn't mean he's a bad president.
4. For an entertaining read, check out the Libya wikipedia page! Good times!
But it's ok, there's worse things in the world. Like.. this.
2011-03-17 - Random Talking Points
After wrapping up work around 3pm today, I decided I needed to get out of the house and enjoy the 60+ degree weather. Got myself a shamrock shake, new clothes, and magic cards (unintentionally... that just kinda happened.) I'm in the mood to play a video game, actually; but not for anything I currently have. Maybe Starcraft... a friend has recently reawoken my RTS bloodlust. We'll see.
In the meantime, enjoy this video. An Eric friend found this, and I'd forgotten about it until today.
2011-03-14 - Welcome to the new site
Sooooo... if you've been here before, you may have noticed that things look a little different. Don't be alarmed. This is expected and normal. Yeah, so I've modernized it a little. Only a little. It's a mix of static and dynamic pages, and most are now PHP; if only for a small script called NC-CMS, which allows me to post simple blocks of text/image/clips anywhere I am with an internet connection.
It's not exactly cutting-edge or anything, but it works for an old-fashioned hand-coder like me.
So anyway, take a look around. Some content I've taken down; but I've added a few things as well. The classics are all still there. Yes, you old UO players who still visit from time to time, As Britannia Turns is still on the site. If you're looking for screenshots, most of those are still up too.
For the time being, there is an archive section; I can't guarantee the links all presently work, or that they will always work. If something specific was removed that you're looking for, just get in contact with me. I'm not posting my email address here for spam reasons, but I still have the same ICQ number; or you can contact me through the EZMU Forums.
Enjoy!
And enjoy this; a music video I've been obsessed with the past week:
